Summer Send Off

It’s hard to believe how quickly the summer went by! To celebrate our amazing summer students and start the new school year off in style - the Gunn Lab hosted an ice cream party for their neighbor labs. And it couldn’t just be any ice cream party - we made the ice cream ourselves with liquid nitrogen. We use liquid nitrogen a lot in the lab for cryopreservation and it was fun for everyone to see it used in an edible manner. The liquid nitrogen quickly froze our ice cream base, while we mixed it. This create a nice smooth ice cream with smaller crystals than ice cream that’s churned in an ice cream maker. After the liquid nitrogen boils off we had delicious ice cream to outfit with lots of toppings. Special thanks to everyone who helped with mixing!
